Sweet Potato Turkey Burgers Recipe

Sweet potato burger with tomatoe.

There are so many delicious turkey burgers choices to choose from, but my absolute favorite is the Sweet Potato Turkey Burger. It adds the right amount of tasty vegetables to a burger, and there is no other burger like it! I never used to like eating turkey burgers because I was not one to follow a mindful lifestyle. However, being surrounded by many health-conscious friends, I acquired a taste for mindful options, and now I can’t get enough. This recipe is the perfect source of protein and is oh so satisfying to eat. Did I mention it’s also gluten-free?!

Growing up, my sister was always gluten-free, so I often had to try many gluten-free options when my parents prepared dinner for her. I found that gluten-free pieces of bread were rarely satisfying, and it was often so hard to find a bun that didn’t have a ton of sugar, wasn’t falling apart or didn’t taste stale.

Needless to say, my sister had to settle for just having a plain burger on a plate with no bun most nights, which is not nearly as filling or satisfying. Luckily, I discovered this quick and easy sweet potato turkey burger recipe from our Sharp Chef, Michelle, blogger for Sunkissed Kitchen.  Now we cannot stop preparing it in my house!

The key to this recipe is that the sweet potato rounds substitute the usual bun, so my sister can finally enjoy a full burger experience.

Spring is in the air, and BBQ season is right around the corner. If you have been dreading that urge to cheat on your diet at summer BBQs like I have, or need a naturally gluten-free healthier option, we’ve got you covered! This sweet potato turkey burger recipe will satisfy your summer cravings. Take it from me; this recipe is not one to miss.

These turkey burgers are cooked to perfection in the Sharp Superheated Steam Countertop Oven and then topped with all my favorite toppings, such as lettuce, avocado, and tomato.

It takes about 28 minutes to prepare this dish from start to finish, and it can serve up to four people.

This recipe is quick and simple to make without sacrificing any taste. These turkey burgers are completed and ready to serve in just seven simple steps!

Before preparing the burgers, you want to start by coating the included broiling pan with olive oil spray. Sometimes, this simple task is not as easy as it sounds. The first time I tried to coat a pan in olive oil, I got it all over my countertop! Just a little piece of advice, learn from my mistakes, and coat your broiling pan outside or over your sink.

This is a mindful alternative to your regular BBQ cuisine, no doubt, but you won’t be sacrificing any flavor in the process!

The second step is to season the ground turkey with sea salt and pepper to taste and ½ teaspoon of garlic powder. I usually season the turkey in a large bowl and mix it all, using my hands to ensure that the seasonings are evenly spread throughout the meat. While your hands are already full of seasonings and turkey, make sure to form 4 even patties with all the turkey meat in the bowl. Then, line the patties on one side of the broiling pan.

Next, rinse and peel your two sweet potatoes.

Like I previously said, the sweet potatoes will act as a mindful alternative to a burger bun.

Once the potato is peeled, you’ll want to cut it in ½ inch thick rounds. I usually do this by laying the sweet potato on the side, cutting the edges off, and then cutting every ½ inch. It creates the perfect flat piece for a sweet potato bun.

Each patty will need two of these rounds to act as buns, so I usually cut four out of each sweet potato. When you shop for sweet potatoes, try to buy thicker ones, so they create larger buns.

Once the sweet potato is cut, spray them with olive oil and sprinkle sea salt and pepper to taste. I usually repeat this step on both sides of the potato round. Then lay the sweet potato pieces on the other side of the broiling pan next to the turkey burgers.

Since the Sharp Superheated Steam Countertop Oven does not require any preheating, you can get right to cooking! Place the broiling pan in the oven, set the oven to 450 °F, and cook for 18 minutes.

Once the burgers are done, I know I never want to wait to dive in and have a bite.

To speed up the process, I usually prepare my toppings beforehand while the sweet potato buns and patties are in the oven. I rinse and assemble lettuce, chop tomatoes, and slice up avocados to use as my toppings. You can add other desired toppings as well.

I had added ranch into the equation before and loved it (I am a huge ranch girl, but test it out before adding it!) As soon as the timer goes off, you are ready to assemble your burgers with desired toppings and enjoy your mindful yet delicious meal!
