3 Simple Ways to Reduce Dust in Your Home

We have all heard the saying, “A clean home is a happy home” probably a million times. Having a clean home is a breath of fresh air, but maintaining a clean home can seem like an overwhelming task at times. One of my favorite ways to keep it manageable is with a cleaning schedule. Breaking down the long cleaning to-do list into smaller pieces has helped me create and manage a clean home (even with the craziness of busy days).

One of the best methods I’ve tried is cleaning as I go. For me, this looks like loading the dishwasher while my food is in the oven, or filing mail away after I am done looking it over. I take a few moments each day to tidy up each room as I see fit. This helps me avoid big piles of clutter while they’re still small and easy to tackle. While was not easy to break my bad habit of “I’ll do it later”, a clean home was definitely worth it!

I’ve conquered the secrets to cleaning kitchen appliances, like microwaves, dishwashers, and cooktops, but the pesky dust that lingers throughout the home has been my greatest enemy. But with grit and relentlessness, the battle with dust is one I am determined to win. Through trial and error, I’ve gathered my 3 favorite tips to reduce dust in your home so you can introduce these simple habits into your daily life to help you live Simply Better.

Wash Linen Regularly

We interact with several things a day without even realizing it (bathroom rug, bed sheets, and towels – just to name a few). Fabrics and textiles can easily hold onto things, such as dust, so it is important to clean them frequently. Home Fresh suggests vacuuming your mattress every four months (I like to do with the change of seasons), washing your mattress cover and comforters once a month, and sheets and pillowcases once a week.

Don’t forget to show the upholstery and draperies around your home some love, too! Carpets, rugs, curtains, and upholstered furniture should also be vacuumed and washed often to help reduce the collection of dust.

Reduce Clutter

Not only is a minimalist aesthetic currently trending in home design, but it is quite practical when it comes to keeping the home clean. With fewer items with nooks and crannies, the cleaning process becomes more manageable. If you are not looking to part with the decorative pieces on your bookshelves, be sure to dust these areas frequently.
