If you are fortunate enough to have experienced the benefits of cooking with superheated steam, you are likely to be on the lookout for more ways to utilize this revolutionary way to cook. We, over at Simply Better Living, have discovered that, while a superheated steam oven and a microwave oven have certain features in common, they are individual, important additions to your kitchen, your family, and your lifestyle.

Reheating with Steam

It is the responsibility of a kitchen’s microwave to withstand the never-ending parade of random, reheatable leftovers that come its way. However, most people have discovered that there are items you DO want to reheat in a microwave oven, and many, many items that you most certainly DO NOT want to heat in a microwave oven. Pizza comes to mind.  Anything “bread-like” is a problem, too.

The Sharp Superheated Steam Countertop Oven solves these problems. Leftover pizza, bagels, croissants, etc.  They all come back to life in superheated steam.

Have you ever brought home a foil, take-away container from a restaurant?  You never know quite what to do with it, do you?  You take a look inside and think to yourself,

“Well, if I can move the chicken to a microwave-safe plate, and put the French fries under the broiler, and open the dinner roll and put it in the toaster… I MIGHT want to eat it.”

With the Superheated Steam oven, all you need to do is take the cover off and slip the entire aluminum container in the oven and choose the reheat setting.

The extremely high cooking temperature of 485 ° F ensures that your leftovers will be thoroughly heated all the way through. At the same time, the oven’s use of steam is sure to leave your food moist on the inside, and crispy on the outside.  In fact, don’t even call them leftovers.  Call them, “second helpings.”

Soups, stews, beverages, vegetables, pasta (sometimes), all reheat quite well in the microwave oven – it is clearly the right tool for the job.  Foods with high water content and no real crispiness are all well suited for your microwave oven.

Cooking with Steam

In this day and age, microwave ovens are primarily for reheating food and popping popcorn. Occasionally, we come across a recipe that is actually “cooked” in a microwave. We see this most often with vegetables, mug-cakes, baked apples.  Basically, anything that doesn’t need to be browned or crispy, and small enough to heat evenly will work.  If you are like me, you expect more than that from your meals.

The Sharp Superheated Steam Countertop Oven, in the simplest terms, with the most convenient definitions, is an oven…  a real oven.  Almost anything you would cook in your big oven will come out great in the Sharp Superheated Steam Countertop Oven.  The only difference is that I always feel confident that my meal will come out looking incredible and tasting even better.

This appliance’s ability to crisp a food’s skin without leaving behind carcinogens is revolutionary and does not exist in any microwave. When you start to combine the health, taste, and aesthetic benefits of cooking with superheated steam and match them up against what we know about cooking with a standard microwave, things begin to seem clearer. It becomes increasingly easier to understand why switching to steam is a trend with longevity.

Microwaves Still Have a Role

The purpose of this article is not to discredit the functionality of microwaves in any way. In fact, the opposite is true. There are many reasons to keep a standard countertop microwave plugged in and on standby in your kitchen. A microwave can perform functions not easily completed by a steam oven, the most important of which being popping popcorn!

The SHARP Orville Redenbacher certified countertop microwave is calibrated to prepare the world’s leading gourmet popcorn to perfection, so there really is no beating that. Also, carousel microwaves make for the ideal beverage reheater: hot chocolate, coffee or tea.

Hand in Hand

These two kitchen appliances, the countertop microwave, and the Sharp Superheated Steam Countertop Oven should live symbiotically in your kitchen. Ideally, they should be used in tandem to support your complex meal preparation patterns, all while helping you achieve an elevated lifestyle.
