It’s no secret that I love a good mug cake. But really, who doesn’t? They’re quick, easy and just big enough for one so there’s no guilt when you want to indulge your sweet tooth a little.
Since the back-to-school season is right around the corner, I decided to round up a few of our sweetest microwave recipes. From chocolate to coffee, to matcha, to carrot I included a little something for everyone to make your college move-in (or any other) day just a little bit sweeter.
Be sure to whip these up and pop them in your Sharp Microwave Drawer or Countertop Microwave Oven whenever you’re craving a tasty treat. Let us see your creation by tagging SharpHomeUSA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Matcha Green Tea Mug Cake
Okay, I may have a slight case of matcha madness but can you blame me? Matcha is nutritious and delicious. This cake is not only tasty but also the prettiest color; perfect for when you want to make all of your Instagram followers jealous of your dessert.
Just combine matcha powder with flour, baking soda, sugar, nonfat milk and vegetable oil in an oversized microwave-safe mug. Mix together with a fork or small whisk and microwave for about a minute.
Once the cake is fully cooked, allow the mug to cool for about one minute before digging in.
Chocolate Mug Cake
When you’re having a serious chocolate craving, there is nothing better to curb it than a serious chocolate cake. That’s where this chocolate mug cake comes in handy.
As impossible as it may seem, this cake tastes even better than it looks (and it looks pretty unreal). The major bonus of this recipe is that it includes a hazelnut center…surprise! In a large mug mix to combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, salt, milk and vegetable oil.
Before placing your mug in the microwave to cook, pour one tablespoon of your favorite hazelnut spread in the center. Then microwave on high for about 70 seconds. Once the cake is fully cooked, allow the mug to cool for about one minute before digging in.
Coffee Cake in a Mug
Who says you can’t eat cake for breakfast? Not us! Next time you’re in need of something a little sweet in the morning, I suggest whipping up this tasty coffee cake in a mug. Combine melted butter, sugar, applesauce, vanilla extract, flour, baking powder and salt in a microwave-safe mug.
Then for your streusel topping; combine butter, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon and top it over your batter. Microwave for about 50-80 seconds.
Carrot Cake in a Mug
For all you healthy people with a sweet tooth, we had to include a guilt-free option. This cake is not only delicious but healthy enough scarf down all in one sitting. Bonus, this cake is also gluten-free! Combine gluten-free flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, salt, flax meal, brown sugar, sugar, canned carrots, milk and vanilla extract in an oversized mug. Microwave for about 80 seconds.
All these mug cakes will make you feel warm and gooey inside when you need a pick-me-up. Whether you’re baking in a microwave because you live in a humble apartment, are cooking for one, or want to safely and easily bake with the kids, these mug cakes are just the thing this winter!
