A Shrimp Taco Recipe Everyone Will Love!

The black mirror finish of the premium glass surfaces on Sharp Induction Cooktops is a perfect match for any style.

Shrimp is a great protein for busy nights. It cooks in minutes (literally) and is a crowd pleaser.

My favorite seasoning for shrimp is spicy blackening seasoning. Pair it with a zesty cabbage salsa and sweet chunks of pineapple, and you reach taco nirvana.

This Cabbage Salsa is often served at Mexican restaurants with chips. I love it, so I recreated it at home to add to taco salads and tacos.

Go ahead and serve this shrimp however it works for your family — flour tortillas, corn tortillas, or even on a giant taco salad, sans tortilla! The spicy shrimp would also be amazing over cauliflower rice for low-carb burrito bowls!

When it’s hot out, shrimp tacos are a perfect idea! The only thing you need to cook for this recipe is the Shrimp, and they cook in minutes on my Sharp Induction Cooktop.

I love the sleek design and the ability to control the heat for a more accurate and even distribution. I’ve used mine for the past 3 years, and know the settings for cooking my favorite dishes perfectly every time.

Combined with the timer, your shrimp will stay juicy and not overcook, even if you’re distracted by prepping your other taco ingredients!

What You’ll Need

cooked shrimp in a black skilletFor the Spicy Shrimp

  • Shrimp (buy ready-to-cook shrimp, no need to peel and devein!)
  • Avocado Oil (olive oil works well too!)
  • Sea Salt
  • Blackening or Cajun Seasoning (check to see if yours contains salt! Mine does not.)

For Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Slaw

  • Tortillas (we love corn or almond flour tortillas)
  • Cabbage Salsa (save time by using a packaged slaw)
  • Pineapple (mango chunks would also be amazing!)
  • Cotija Cheese (or sub your favorite shredded cheese)

How to Make Shrimp Tacos

Step 1: Into a skillet, add avocado oil and shrimp over medium-high heat on your Sharp Induction Cooshrimp cooking on a sharp induction cooktopktop. Season with salt and cajun seasoning. Cook for 2 minutes, then flip, and cook the other side for 2 minutes.

Step 2: Assemble tacos by warming the tortillas, and then layering them with cabbage salsa, spicy shrimp, pineapple, and cotija cheese.

Variations For Shrimp Tacos

Make them Less Spicy: Use half of the cajun seasoning, or omit altogether and season the shrimp with salt, cumin, paprika, and lime juice. If you make your own cabbage salsa, you can also cut down on the amount of jalapeno.

Save Time: No time to make a cabbage salsa? The homemade version is really best after left sitting for a few hours or overnight. Buy a prepackaged slaw mix, and jazz it up with some chopped jalapeno and lime juice.

Mix up the Fillings: No pineapple? Mango or avocado are both great additions to these seafood tacos. Store-bought guacamole would also be great!

Make These Dairy Free: These shrimp tacos are great without the cheese! Keep them dairy free by omitting the cheese. If you’d like, add avocado to replace the creaminess!

Frequently Asked Questions

shrimp tacos plated on a Sharp induction cooktopCan you make shrimp tacos with cooked shrimp?

Yes, these work with precooked shrimp! Heat the shrimp in avocado oil and add salt and cajun seasoning and they will be delicious.

What is the best way to cook taco shells?

Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, and add corn, flour, or almond flour tortillas. Heat on both sides until warmed through.

How can I make shrimp tacos ahead of time?

These are perfect for meal prep, or to make ahead of time for a special dinner. Be sure to have your cabbage salsa ready to go, and chop your pineapple. Thaw the shrimp, and have it ready to pop in a pan and season when you’re ready for dinner!

What are some good toppings to put on tacos? Salsa, mango salsa, guacamole, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, cabbage, and tomatoes are great taco toppers. Also try sliced jalapenos, chopped cilantro, and chopped white onions for flavors similar to street tacos.

Reheating Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Slaw

Store leftover taco ingredients separately. When you’re ready for leftovers, simply reheat the shrimp in a pan (high heat for about 2 minutes), heat the tortillas, and then assemble more tacos!
