If you are searching for a simple, inexpensive meal for the whole family to enjoy, we have just the recipe from our Sharp Chef Michelle, blogger for Sunkissed Kitchen!
It can be challenging to make a mindful dinner for yourself or others when you end work late… That’s why these sausage and pepper lettuce wraps are one of my favorite dishes to make during the week. It is packed with flavor and only takes 20 minutes to make in your Sharp Superheated Steam Countertop Oven! Convenient right? Your family won’t have to jeopardize a delicious meal at the expense of a busy day.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken sausage (compliant)
- 2 bell peppers (sliced thin)
- 1 onion (sliced thin)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 8 romaine lettuce leaves
Instructions
There are just a few simple steps to this delicious dish! First, you want to gather together your four-chicken sausage, 2 bell peppers, and 1 onion. Keep the sausage whole and add it to a medium mixing bowl. Then, slice the peppers into long, thin sticks and slice the onions thin as well. I usually cut the onion by peeling the outside, cutting off the ends, and then cutting it down the center long ways. From there, it is MUCH easier to chop each half into long slices.
Once you combine all your ingredients into your mixing bowl, its time season this spread. Coat the ingredients with a tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon cumin, ½ teaspoon sea salt, and ½ teaspoon chili powder. I usually toss all the ingredients around in the bowl by spinning the bowl or using my hands. Make sure that the seasonings fully cover and coat the sausage, peppers, and onions to maximize the flavor!
Next, add all the seasoned ingredients to your broiling pan, making sure everything is spread out so it cooks evenly. Some people like to keep the sausage, peppers, and onions all separated on the broiling pan, others mix them all together. It is your preference. I know I prefer to keep everything together.
After following these simple steps of preparation, which should take about five minutes, it is time to use your Superheated Steam Countertop Oven. Place the broiling tray in the oven and bake for 15 minutes on 425°F or until your desired doneness. If you do not happen to have the Sharp Superheated Countertop Steam Oven yet, just increase the baking time to 20-22 minutes.
While everything is baking, you’ll want to start to prepare the lettuce wraps! Start off by, adding the lettuce leaves to plates or small meal prep containers. This recipe serves four people, so it is perfect for guests or for weekly meal prep! When I make this recipe for my lunches during the week, I like to put the lettuce in a ziplock bag separate from my cooked sausage, peppers, and onions for optimal freshness.
Once the sausage, onions, and peppers are baked, it is time to serve! I usually add about ¼ of the seasoning mixture to each wrap. You can add mustard or other sauces on top of these wraps, as well, for even more taste. Let us know how you top off your meal by using the hashtag #SharpHome across social.
